Check out This 'Twice-up' (large art) 1962 Jack Kirby FF page with inks by Dick Ayers! This Fantastic Four #14 page is from the classic early days of the Marvel Universe and features the three male members of the FF (Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards, the Human Torch/Johnny Storm and the Thing/Ben Grimm) and the Thing's girlfriend Alicia Masters on board a tiny bathyscaph, a self-propelled vehicle used for deep-sea dives. They are on a mission to rescue their fourth member, the Invisible Girl/Sue Storm, from the clutches of their enemy, Namor the Sub-Mariner. Namor is using his control over the seven seas and all sea creatures to stop the FF members from reaching him and Sue. In the opening panel, the ship is attacked by the quills from "some sort of giant undersea porcupine". In the second panel, an "under-water tornado" threatens to pull the vehicle apart. In the third panel the Human Torch departs through the hatch and yells out his ever classic "FLAME ON!" making his flame "white hot" as a way to turn the water to steam and dispel the current. In the fourth panel Johnny stops the whirlpool. In the fifth panel, the water pressure crushes Johnny, who thinks he's doomed but is happy he was saved the others. In the next panel, Reed uses his elastic powers to reach out his arm and save Johnny. In the final panel, Reed has brought the Torch back into the safety of the bathyscaph and wraps Johnny in a towel with help from Alicia. THE THING then wonders what other tricks Namor has ready to spring on them. These early issues of Fantastic Four were the building blocks of the Marvel Universe, in which Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee established many of the characters and concepts that others have built upon now for over 60 years, with no end in sight. Kirby pages from the first 2 years following the start of the FF in Fantastic Four #1 (1961) are historically important and will always be in high demand. Compare this great page to the published comic book page in the red link above.
