Check out This glorious oversized work featuring Marvel's world famous version of the Norse God of Thunder, the Mighty Thor, which was illustrated by his co-creator Jack Kirby, the legendary King of Comic Book Art! This was developed for a Thor animated series proposal that the Ruby-Spears Animation Studio was developing in the 1980s. Unseen until now! This is an ideal LARGE full-figure image of Thor drawn on 14" x 16.75"art board, and is to our knowledge larger than any other original Kirby Thor artwork that has ever surfaced, including his work from the early Silver Age when Kirby was working in the 'Twice-up' artwork size. Thor is spinning his mystical Uru hammer, Mjolinir, in a pose that really captures the feel of the early Thor stories that were published in Journey Into Mystery. In addition to the primary image, there is a separate headshot of Thor with his head turned into more of a profile pose. There's also a separate close-up image of the hammer in non-spinning mode. The inker of the piece, over Kirby's pencils, is Alfredo Alcala and was employed by Ruby-Spears at the time. Kirby illustrated this impressive work in the late 1970s or early 1980s during the time he was employed by the Ruby-Spears Animation Studio covering a period of eight years, Kirby operated primarily as a concept artist for the studio, using his once in a century imagination to bring to life mostly new concepts that the studio could pitch to the TV networks for Saturday mornings cartoons. A tiny percentage of Kirby's work from Ruby-Spears involved existing comic book characters including Marvel's Thor. ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website!
