Check out this "AMAZING" HISTORIC 1973 Prelim to one of the most famous covers in comic book history...... the historic Death of Gwen Stacy! This is the legendary John Romita's preliminary cover artwork for one of the most famous comic books in the medium's history, Amazing Spider-Man #121, the 1973 issue that killed off Spider-Man's great love, Gwen Stacy. It was this shocking story that broke the hearts of many readers, who still haven't gotten over it over 50 years later! We see Spider-Man from behind hanging on his web. He's looking at vignettes of most of his supporting cast. 7 of the heads are small cut out pieces of art taped onto the prelim. The word balloons in the published version tell us that someone close to Spidey is about to die, but the question on Spidey's and the reader's mind is who? The published cover called out in big letters that this was a "Turning Point" in Spider-Man's saga. It not only proved to be that, but it is seen by many as the end of the era of comic books as an innocent medium for kids and the start of a darker era that would appeal to older readers. If the original artwork for the published version of this cover were to come up for auction in today's market, it would EASILY sell for more than seven figures. Here's an opportunity to own a HISTORIC piece of comic book history at a relatively affordable price compared to the published cover! This artwork is signed by Stan Lee, the legendary co-creator of Spider-Man also. The person that owned this original took a picture with John Romita at that time and a printout of the picture with John Romita's actual signature is included as well as Stan Lee's COA for his signature and John Romita hand written and hand signed note telling the owner he remembers his visit in 1973 when this art was given to him. art is drawn on 8.5" x 10.8" cover prelim paper. Just a great cover prelim! Compare this nice art to the published comic book in the red link above! ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website! Just send us an email to mikeburkey@aol.com and we can try to work something out.
