Check out this superbly drawn 1954 EC page which was penciled and inked by the great Graham Ingels, from the the story titled "Ashes to Ashes!" This detailed page is from the story where A jilted lover makes an embittered exit as his intended fiancé turns to accept his rival. From such soap-operatic bathos, Ingels concocts one of his most intense exercises in grotesque emotional turmoil -- a fitting exit from the genre for one of the most widely acclaimed artists in horrific comics. The page represents the final issue of The Vault of Horror, a cornerstone title, as EC's entire flagship line of chillers and shockers was soon to fall prey to the censorship scam known as the Comics Code Authority. What the page by itself does not reveal is that its story, "Ashes to Ashes," is a spinoff of the 19th-century novel Frankenstein, foreshadowing the 1967 Hammer Films production of Frankenstein Created Woman. (The bearded gent in Panels 1, 3, 6, and 7 is a descendant of the original renegade surgeon.) Even without a conspicuous element of violence, Ingels' art is at its most macabre, here, radiating a seething intensity. Compare this page to the published comic book page in red link above. ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website!
