Check out the stunning detail on this amazing published "Gardens of the Dead" portfolio cover illustration. (Chanting Monks Press, 2003) Wrightson had a renaissance later in his career and created a number of works that were worthy of discussion alongside his Frankenstein series. This is one of those creations, featuring a striking, staggering zombie in a dark and wooded setting! Accomplished in pencil and ink on 14 by 19.25 inch thicker artist's board. Signed in the artwork at lower right, "Wrightson". Bernie Wrightson had a great talent for depicting the rising dead with just the right macabre touch. From his groundbreaking work on Swamp Thing, into the "Studio" era with colleagues Barry Windsor Smith, Michael Kaluta, and Jeff Jones, and onto mainstream visibility in the 1980's with projects like Cycle of the Werewolf and Creepshow, Wrightson's accomplishments and influence has been as broad as any artist emerging from the realm of comic art.
