Ammo Armageddon Large Rare Fully Penciled Cover (Shaolin Cowboy Riding A Dinosaur!) 1990

This is Geof Darrow's impressive post-apocalyptic rare DETAILED cover pencils to Ammo Armageddon, a collection of sci-fi alien invasion tales with twist endings published by Atomeka in 1993. Rendered in pencil on board, this Darrow cover lives up to the artist's reputation as the master of detail. In a strikingly bizarre scene, we see Darrow's popular heavily armed Shaolin Cowboy hero in a fishing hat riding a dinosaur-like lizard creature while a smaller lizard is perched in front of the man pointing a gun of his own! A tiny nude woman in bondage with a radiation exposure tattoo bends over on top of the fishing hat and blows a bubble. Far out! It's nothing short of a surrealistic masterpiece by one of the most uniquely gifted artists ever to grace the comic book medium. These intricate pencils are the most important part of Darrow's process, often inking on vellum over the original pencil drawing (as was done here for this cover). Darrow's pencil work is extremely rare and desirable as this finished cover also used this pencil copy with inks only, so the pencils are rarely offered to market. Furthermore this piece was published as a full page feature in "Lead Poisoning: The Pencil Art of Geoff Darrow" (2017). Artist Geof Darrow first drew wide acclaim for his work with writer Frank Miller on Hard Boiled, a mini-series for which they won the 1991 Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist. He's also known for his work with Miller on The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, Shaolin Cowboy (seen here) and his covers for Transmetropolitan.
