We are thrilled to offer for the first time the 1970 penciled pages to Jeffrey Jones' classic Vampirella HORROR story titled: "An Axe to Grind!" which was first published in Vampirella #5 by Warren Publications. For a short period, Jeffrey Jones desired to keep the pencils to his comic stories, since he put so much more work and detail into these pages than typically just sketching out the page prior to inking. Jones would put a lot of effort and time into the pencil work, producing very tight, finished pencils, and he would then light box the pencils and ink a separate page. This method proved to be too time consuming and he quickly abandoned it, returning to the "normal" way of producing a comic page. This is one of the few or perhaps only story that has survived in this PENCILED form from this series. Additionally, Jones said that Bernie Wrightson assisted in some panels in this story, though he couldn't recall which! We'll leave it for you to decide which panels Wrightson brought his classic horror touch to! Art is in excellent condition. Jones is a world class master artist who went on to produce hundreds of incredible covers, paintings, and illustrations, and is perhaps best known for his classic IDYL strip that appeared in National Lampoon. His Warren work is in much demand and a page like this is exceedingly rare to find for public sale!
