Greggy sees a knocked out thug from his window and he thinks its one of santas helpers! Here is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Spawn history. Let me explain...There are only 7 Spawn issues (Spawn#35,36,37,39,41,43,45) penciled only by Greg and completely inked by only Mcfarlane. I guess people get confused because Todd did ink most of the covers that Capullo penciled but it is a different story for the interior work. It is a misconception that Todd worked on most of the spawn issues. Todd would from time to time help ink pages from various issues by doing little odds and ends on pages with Danny Miki,Mark Pennington, and Chance Wolfe doing the bulk of the inks depending on the issue but people think when they see a spawn page Mcfarlane had something to do on it which is not the case. Spawn #39 is a great Christmas story spawn style and considered one of the classic issues(Santa Spawn) from the early days of Spawn. First a little insight to the creation of this issue. It was a very personal issue for penciler Greg Capullo and says,"This issue was/is particularly special to me. Not only was the book dedicated to my mother, my sister's name,Nadine, was used also. Not only that, the nickname given to me by her was what Greg was called a few times in the issue as well! That is only part of why this story is special to me....." Greg goes on to talk about falling on rough times like this family did. He also says,"For the most part I laid out the rooms as I remember them as a kid." The story revolves around Greg and his family. It is Christmas Eve and Greg's mother has to go to work. She leaves his sister in charge but like atypical teenager she runs out to go see a concert and leaves little ole Greggy all by himself to watch TV till he crashes. But before he goes to bed he is sure to leave Santa some cookies and milk. He dozes off and then......BUMP crash.....he wakes up...it must be Santa he heard. In reality it is spawn handing out some justice to some thugs who apparently robbed someone for a bag of cash. Greggy looks out the window and he sees Santa and the reindeer. In the end Greg finds a stack of money that one of the robbers dropped while facing the wrath of spawn. Greggy gives it to his mom who in turn shares it with the whole building. Happy ending Merry Christmas....but on the last page not all is so happy and well for Spawn. We see him holding a picture of Wanda, Terry and Cyan. Notice the finger covering up Terry's face in the picture. Great holiday Story! Great art!
