Check out this beautiful Frank Brunner drawn 1971 Vampirella Story which was created in pen and ink with beautiful wash tones as well as craftint used for a great effect! A brilliant dues-paying assignment for Brunner -- foreshadowing his more prominent work as a signature artist at Marvel Comics -- this large-scale closing page catches the artist at age 22, already asserting a command of the anguished facial expressions and illustrative textures that would attract a popular following. Three ghostly faces (upper left) resemble DC Comics spectral character, the Spectre. Brunner's original lettering graces most of the balloons, which editor Archie Goodwin had ordered replaced with Ben Oda's more conventional style of block-lettering. Most of these replacement balloons have loosened, with the advantage of exposing Brunner's calligraphy. Eye-pleasing ink-spatter shading (done with a saturated toothbrush) in the closing panel. Ink, white watercolor highlights, Zipatone shading (graduated and negative), and collage effects over graphite on Bristol board. The image area is a very large 14" x 19", with moderate toning. The closing panel stat with the story's narrator is missing as it was stat used from the same image on page 1. Compare this nice art to the published magazine page in the red link above! ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website! Just send us an email to mikeburkey@aol.com and we can try to work something out.
