This "FANTASTIC" Jack Kirby story board was created for Episode #9 of the New Fantastic Four cartoon (1978), an episode titled, "The Frightful Four". It features familiar Frightful Four members the Wizard, the Sandman, the Trapster and Medusa. Design story boards like this are an important part of the production process of an animated cartoon, and Kirby, who always thought like a glorious film-maker and worked with tremendous speed, was a natural for the role. After decades drawing comic books, Jack Kirby left the field temporarily in the late 1970s to work in animation, working on series including Thundarr the Barbarian and, what was very familiar territory to him, The New Fantastic Four (called that to distinguish it from the Fantastic Four cartoon from the 1960s apparently). Stan Lee wrote scripts, reuniting the pair that had made history together in the previous decade. Offered here is a Kirby storyboard featuring the Frightful Four supervillain team that Kirby and Lee had introduced back in Fantastic Four #36. The team consisted of three villains introduced in individually in earlier stories, the Wizard, the Sandman and Trapster (originally called Paste-Pot Pete of all things). The fourth member of the team was the mysterious Madame Medusa, seen for the first time in Fantastic Four #36. She would of course turn out to be Medusa of the Royal Family of the Inhumans, and for a couple of years in the mid-70s she took the place of Susan Richards in the Fantastic Four. ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website!
