Bernie Wrightson's work needs no introduction. He is the finest horror artist since Graham Ingels worked on EC Comics in the 1950s. Wrightson's combination of horror tempered with humor was a home run with the public. He is one of the greatest artists to illustrate horrible yet beautiful walking dead and rotting corpses. This famous work was done at the peak of his artistic ability in 1975, titled: "Bad Doin's In Knuckledowns Lonesome" Mixed media, color, 22 by 24 inches, on heavier art board. Bernie Wrightson had just finished his iconic Swamp Thing run and his beautifully illustrated Warren work. Posters were big sellers in the 1970s and everyone from Frazetta to his fellow Studio artists were putting out successful sellers. This poster was his VERY first and was created for well known Christopher Enterprises, and was a huge artistic and commercial success. It depicts a trio of charming Victorian grave robbers who stumble across "3" risen rotting corpses on one unfortunate evening. Wrightson used several techniques to create the texture of the rocks and dirt, to great effect. The colors are suitably muted and our eye is drawn to the terrible yet beautiful rotting figure who has risen. Colors and line work was changed for the printed poster. The SIGNED poster to this very paintings sells for several hundreds of dollars on Ebay and at auctions! It's a perfect, large, 1-OF-A-Kind painting that conveys many of Wrightson's favorite motifs - midnight scene + Victorian grave robbers + rotting corpse = masterpiece! This iconic Wrightson work was also published in the famous STUDIO book. This is perhaps Wrightson's best known color work and just an AMAZING piece to add to your private art collection! Compare this nice painting to the published lithograph / poster in the red link above! ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website!
