Check out this STUNNING 1970 Double Spread SPLASH, which was penciled and inked by the great Bernie Wrightson, from the story titled: "The Secret of the Egyptian Cat!" This nice DOUBLE SPLASH was one of the few 2-page spreads that Wrightson drew, accomplished in pencil, ink, and Zipatone on 22.25 x 15.75 art board. From issue #186 pages 2 and 3. This beautifully constructed page shows DC horror host "Cain" looking on as an Egyptian priestess morphs from a cat back into her human form amidst a gory looking WRIGHTSON cemetery, with the classic "House of Mystery" pictured in the background. The Egyptian Cat queen shown here has been featured with Cain in several of the classic SANDMAN stories, and this spread right here is the Egyptian Queen's VERY FIRST COMIC BOOK APPEARANCE! Art is signed "Wrightson" in white paint in the upper left. Title is hand-lettered across the bottom border. No cartoonist can capture the essence of horror quite like Wrightson, and this page would be considered by many fans as the "perfect" Wrightson piece! This is among the finest Swamp Thing examples you will find by the Master of the Macabre! From his groundbreaking work on Swamp Thing, into the "Studio" era with colleagues Barry Windsor Smith, Michael Kaluta, and Jeff Jones, and onto mainstream visibility in the 1980's with projects like Cycle of the Werewolf and Creepshow, Wrightson's accomplishments and influence has been as broad as any artist emerging from the realm of comic art. His work in comics and illustration art is in a class by itself among collectors and fans of the medium. ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website! Just send us an email to mikeburkey@aol.com and we can try to work something out.
