Check out this Very nice Robert Crumb Topps Salesman's Brochure pinup which was used for Page 13. Robert Crumb had moved to New York in 1965, hoping to work for Harvey Kurtzman's "Help!" magazine. His timing couldn't have been worse, as Help! folded the day he arrived, but Kurtzman helped the young artist find some work for Woody Gelman at Topps, the bubblegum and novelty company. One of Crumb's first assignments there was illustrating an incentive pamphlet for salesmen hawking Bazooka bubblegum to local stores. Here's one of the final pages from the booklet, showing the "mountain" of prizes one might earn. The art is in ink on thin Bristol, which has been glued to a support piece. The lettering stat work pasted onto the support piece. Image area measures approximately 9.75" x 5.25", drawn on a 12.6 by 7.75 inch art board. Just a neat piece showcasing the historical professional start of this renowned artist! $1,900.00
