Check out this very rare Robert Crumb "R. Crumb Almanac" Illustrated Letter / (a Diary really) to Marty Pahls in 1959. Robert Crumb was himself a comics fanboy, devouring certain comic books, comic strips, old magazines with interesting artwork, early fanzines (especially those inspired by EC Comics), and talking to other fans about such things. This incredible written and illustrated handmade BOOK to fellow fan, best friend, and future brother-in-law Marty Pahls is filled with ruminations about comics and comic art, including a discussion on Crumb's upcoming visit to New York City (his first) to see cartoonist Stan Lynde; current fanzines of the day (titles like Shag, Fanfare, and his own Foo); a rant against Seduction of the Innocent; a discussion on Reed Crandall and his work in the EC Picto-Fiction titles, a tape of old Jazz music sent by Pahls, and more. Crumb even ponders his future, wondering what field of art to work in -- "Which is best? Comic strips? Magazines? Not comic books, unless there's a great awaking!" And that, as we all know now, is exactly what happened when Crumb did his first issue of Zap! This digest-sized "Diary" in reality, has a great drawn, pencil, ink, and hand colored cover (an obvious homage to EC's Incredible Science-Fiction covers, with its rocket-like bottle at the left hand side as well), fifteen pages of hand-lettered notes, and two interior ink drawings, including a drawing of Robert Crumb himself running to mail the letter! Every page measures 5.25 by 8.1 inches. This is just a wonderful, rare chance to glimpse inside the mind of a future giant among cartoonists! Click the extra red links above to see ALL 15 hand written pages including 2 extra drawings, by the great Robert Crumb! A TRUE piece of HISTORY RIGHT HERE! ALL HIGH end pieces of art, including this one, are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payment plan options, and trades are always considered towards this and "ANY" art on our website! Just send us an email to mikeburkey@aol.com and we can try to work something out.
